Setubal is a coastal city south of Lisbon and was formerly one of the great sardine fishing centers of Portugal. Fertagus trains leave from multiple stations in Lisbon and take less than an hour to reach Setubal, making it an easy day trip from the capital. While walking near the water I came across this religious azulejo. It’s more modern than the typical blue and white azulejos, but brightens the appearance of the building just the same.
In addition to this colorful Portuguese urban art, the area surrounding Setubal is full of natural beauty and attractions. A pod of dolphins lives in the nearby Sado River and the countryside bears the vineyards and castles that I will always associate with Portugal.
